Plot:

Erin – hot, smart and single, is desperately trying to find a normal guy. She reluctantly agrees to come to her friends’ party. Dressed as a “stud finder” she is trying to find the love of her life at this crazy swinging Halloween Party. The prowling pirate, the sexy nurse, the hairy wolf man, the down to earth cave girl, the dueling strippers, the cops and S&M types, and even a half naked Sarah Palin are all trying to find some quick steamy action. The only guy that seems normal to Erin is someone dressed as a homeless man that smells bad…

Reviews:

“While Halloween Party actually is about the creepiest holiday of the year, it’s actually a rather sweet film, basically a romantic comedy in story – but with the whole cast in enjoyably silly costumes, some intentionally crude humour, writing that aspires more than to just fulfill the clichés, a directorial effort that picks up on all this, and a cast uniformly up to the task make this a rather entertaining little romp!” Mike Haberfelner, [Re]SearchMyTrash.com

“It’s filled with diverse characters, lots of laughs, and some sentimental moments as well. Changing the perspective between different cameras and rooms provides a look into many events happening at the same time. This style provides the viewer with a feeling like they are participating in the revelry, moving from room to room and watching the people at play.” LastBoneStands, The Slaughtered Bird

“While Halloween Party is quite fast paced (running time of 85 minutes), it doesn’t seem rushed in anyway. Quite frankly you’d almost wish there were just a few more minutes as the guests at this party are like no other. If only all party guests were this entertaining and free spirited. All around, Halloween Party is a hidden gem that’s a good watch if you’re looking for some good comedy.” Monique Thompson, Red Carpet Crash

Ghoulies Go to College aka Ghoulies III is a 1991 American comedy horror film directed by special effects creator John Carl Buechler (Cellar Dweller; Friday the 13th Part VII; Watchers Reborn) from a screenplay by Brent Olson.

Main cast:

Evan MacKenzie (Children of the Night; Scanner Cop II), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers; Piranha; The Sleeping Car), Eva LaRue, John R. Johnston, Patrick Labyorteaux, Billy Morrissette, Hope Marie Carlton (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Slumber Party Massacre III, Slaughterhouse Rock), Andrew Barach, Jason Scott Lee (Dracula II; Dracula 3), Griffin O’Neal, Marcia Wallace, Stephen Lee, Dan Shor. It also marked the debut of Matthew Lillard (Scream and Shaggy in the Scooby Doo live action movies)

Director John Carl Buechler and actor Kevin McCarthy with the three Ghoulies

Plot:

A Ghoulish Tales comic book is found in a frat house bathroom. The comic secretly holds powers over three lost Ghoulies that are imprisoned within its pages. They are released by Professor Ragnar who uses them in an attempt to stop ‘Prank Week’ where frats play tricks on each other for a tinfoil crown.

2693712307_037

Skip Carter and his frat house of party animals are destined to take back the crown but he is having problems with his girlfriend who is dating his arch rival, Jeremy. When Jeremy frames Skip, resulting in his expulsion, the Ghoulies are sent to kill Skip and any other frats that stand in their way…

Reviews:

screen-shot-2016-09-24-at-12-52-06The Ghoulies themselves are actually pretty good puppets. Gone is the stop motion wizardry of Dave Allen, but in its place we have larger than life rubber creations from John Carl Buechler (who also directed). Their wise cracking and cheesy one liners really help with the fun of the film…” Paul Ashford, Horror and Sons

“Though the film’s ostensibly a slasher, its violence primarily takes the form of Chuck Jones-style cartoon slapstick: the ghoulies dispatch their handful of victims with a plunger, a frying pan, and a toilet bowl. Not a whole lot of terror to savor in this particular installment, nor much worthwhile comedy. Though I suppose the dick jokes garner a sliver of novelty when cackled by demon puppets.” Alice Stoehr, Letterboxd.com

2693712307_050

“The kills are just as nonsensical as the murdering ghoulies. They shove an entire, still living frat boy down a toilet and flush it. I think you should do the same with this movie.  Just flush it and forget that it was ever made.” John Leavengood, Movies, Films and Flix

“The stiff, not-always convining ghoulies were designed by John Carl Buechler, who also directs what amounts to a series of Porky-like sequences ranging from burping jokes to panty raids in reverse (the women strip the men) to firing squirt guns of “goofy glue.” John Stanley, Creature Features

“In one of a series of bad choices they decided to give the ghoulies voices which could have been refreshing for the third entry if they did not sound like Curly, Moe, and Larry. Another one of this movie’s woes is that they chose to give the demons clothes that made them look like little toys dressed up to resemble typical frat boys.” William Nightshade, Nightmarish Conjurings

Plot:

When Owen is forced to confront the past he’s been running from his whole adult life, he and his girlfriend, Isabel, become entangled in a horrifying web of lies, deceit and murder…

Reviews:

“Defying genre conventions, Bates allows many of these forceful emotions and twisted relationship dynamics to play out in nearly stationary master shots that push slowly in on the characters’ frequent sniping. Along with fairly minimal cutting, these techniques capably build tension within scenes, but can’t always manage to carry it over to subsequent sequences, resulting in sometimes uneven pacing.” Justin Lowe, The Hollywood Reporter

“It may not necessarily be for everyone, but I dig Bates’ somewhat misanthropic voice as a storyteller and with Trash Fire, he scathingly tackles his own bout of depression through the character of Owen, someone who is so abrasive and hateful in nature that he truly is an off-putting protagonist for us to be engaged with as viewers.” Heather Wixson, Daily Dead

trash-fire-2016-film-1

Trash Fire starts in a dark, desperate place and only gets darker and more desperate. It will leave you shaken, but the visceral experience of it is exhilarating. “I survived Trash Fire” could be a rite of passage for filmgoers, whether they’re horror fans or not.” Fred Topel, Bloody Disgusting

” … when we’re asked to care about the characters caught up in some generations-old gothic tragedy, all the air leaks out of the balloon. The remainder of the picture is a slow march toward a violent conclusion, as half-assed story obstacles keep Owen and Pearl from their big moment of redemption.” Jordan Hoffman, The Guardian

“The point of all this is not exactly clear, though Bates (Richard, not Norman) has said the story has origins in his own personal bout with depression. Whatever personal demons he’s trying to exorcise on screen — including a thinly veiled contempt for religion — feel grafted onto a mishmash of horror tropes that never fully embrace their genre origins until an over-the-top finale bloodbath.” Geoff Berkshire, Variety

‘Peltzer has an imaginary friend. Unfortunately for him… It’s Ronnie’

My Bloody Banjo is a 2015 British comedy horror film written and directed by Liam Regan. It was originally titled Banjo and is an expansion of Regan’s short film Confessions of Peltzer.

Main Cast:

James Hamer-Morton (Dead Love), Damian Morter (The Eschatrilogy: Book of the Dead; Hellbilly 58; Temptation), Dani Thompson (Carnivore; Cute Little Buggers; Forest of the Damned 2), Laurence R. Harvey (Boogeyman: Reincarnation; Dead LoveThe Human Centipede II and III), Vito Trigo (RipperReturn to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1 and 2; Dark Windows), Clay von Carlotwitz (Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1 and 2; The House in the Woods).

Plot:

Peltzer Arbuckle (James Hamer-Morton) is a meek and bullied office employee, humiliated by his megalomaniac boss, teasing colleagues and his cheating partner. Peltzer spends his days in misery, stuck in his own mundane, nightmarish reality. Once news about his embarrassing sexual accident makes it’s way around the workplace, Peltzer decides to put up with his humiliation no more, and conjures up his childhood imaginary friend Ronnie (Damian Morter).

my-bloody-banjo-2015-chainsaw-ronnie

Peltzer’s world is soon turned upside down, when Ronnie attempts to manipulate him to exact revenge on his tormenting co-workers in the most gruesome fashion. As the body count stacks up, Peltzer must ultimately decide whether to run away from his past or take control of his future…

Reviews:

“Damian Morter does a superb job as Peltzer’s imaginary friend playing him over-the-top, caked in prosthetics and stealing every scene he appears in … His scenes with James Hamer-Morton are all great to watch and James also gives a great performance as Peltzer. The bloody manhood scenes and the condom scene made me cringe and probably have the same effect on many male viewers but it was good to see it done in such a humorous way.” Dean Sills, UK Horror Scene

“Admittedly, the film really doesn’t come alive until Ronnie appears which is probably the point, but the downside. In the first 20 minutes or so, you do really wonder what the director is really going for. Birdemic or American Psycho? Overall, Banjo is surprisingly decent for a low-budget comedy horror.” Liam Regan creates perfectly a comical but dark world…” Louise Tooth, The Hollywood News

Ghoulies IV is a 1994 American supernatural comedy horror film directed by Jim Wynorski from a screenplay by Mark Sevi (Pterodactyl; Arachnid; Scanner Cop II). The film was produced by CineTel Films and, in the US, released straight-to-video by Columbia TriStar Home Video. It was released on DVD in 2007 by Echo Bridge Home Entertainment.

It has been criticized by the fans of the series because the ‘ghoulies’ in this film are completely different; two dwarf actors in costumes played the ghoulies.

The 1994 UK release was cut by 9 seconds to achieve a ’15’ rating. The 2004 release was uncut for a ’12’ rating. despite sexual references to bondage with handcuffs and a used condom being hurled from a moving vehicle.

As the body count rises, it becomes an ultimate battle between a demonic killer, a rule-breaking cop, and our favorite creatures from the netherworld…

Reviews:

Ghoulies IV was slammed by critics and fans alike. I really can’t understand why, especially if the gripes are coming from people who liked the previous installments. I thought it was one of the more better-acted films of the genre I’ve seen, with truly likable characters and a story, while stupid, that managed to hold my attention the whole way through. Can’t ask for much more than that. I kind of wish the trolls would’ve exploded, though.” Matt, X-Entertainment

“The Ghoulies movies were always threadbare, never budgeted high enough for name actors or seamless effects, but this is where they bottom out. It’s pocked with gratuitous footage from the (superior) first movie; marred by stage lighting out of a high school theater production; full of conviction-free line readings. I hope, at least, that everyone involved with its making had an OK time on set and felt adequately compensated for their labor.” Alice Stoehr, Letterboxd.com

ghoulies-iv-stacie-randall

“The only ghoulies (Tony Cox as “Ghoulie Dark” and Arturo Gil as “Ghoulie Lite”) are almost afterthoughts, contributing little to a plot that really doesn’t need them. You could say Mark Sevi’s script is all backwards. Producer Gary Schmoeller is capable of better stuff than this messy, oft-demeaning movie.” John Stanley, Creature Features

Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.

Reviews:

Stan Against Evil might not be the most original program that you watch on TV this season, but there’s no denying the passion and love for the genre that just oozes out of IFC’s new series. There is a strong, fun, macabre mentality at play here and the episodes push binge-worthy storytelling where cliffhangers are populating most of the episodes.” Daniel Kurland, Den of Geek!

stan-against-evil-768x511

“The main reason to tune in to this cheerfully goofy show is to see typically excellent performances from leads John C. McGinley and Janet Varney, who work well together … The only recurring annoyance is that the title character’s constant litany of complaints contain a lot of lazy sexist jokes, which the show seems to think are funnier and more original than they are.” Maureen Ryan, Variety

john-c-mcginley-deborah-baker-jr-and-janet-varney-in-stan-against-evil-2016

“The effects for the witches (who love popping up for jump scares) are familiarly latex-looking or CGI cheap, an economic necessity that’s either endearingly part of the joke or tossed-off, depending … Still, the cast is game, and, if you’re looking for a knockoff Bruce Campbell this Halloween season, you could do a lot worse than John C. McGinley.” Dennis Perkins, A.V. Club

stan-against-evil-2016-witch

“ …it’s a sort of Mayberry RFD strained through Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with as many bad words as basic cable will allow. There is a bit of a through line, a low-lying arc; but it’s basically episodic television, each week giving its heroes a new sort of spook to understand and dispatch … Stan is busy enough and its players … appealing enough to keep you interested if not really invested.” Robert Lloyd, Los Angeles Times

evil-outside-the-door-stan-against-evil-2016

“Stan’s nothing more than an insufferably sexist and homophobic throwback, willing to risk everyone’s life in order to prove that Starsky and Hutch were secretly gay. At best, Stan Against Evil could be described as a campy mash-up, some sort of would-be Wet Hot American Horror Story, but Gould’s no Lloyd Kaufman, and his series will be lucky if it runs longer than the buffoonish cartoon of a series it most echoes, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo.” Aaron Riccio, Slant magazine

Plot:

A female journalist named Taylor Gentry and her two cameramen, Doug and Todd, document the preparations of Leslie Vernon as he prepares to join the ranks of other slasher villains. Leslie takes his identity from an urban legend about a boy who killed his family and was cast into a river by angry townsfolk.

He initially claims to be the vengeful spirit of the slain boy but soon admits that he is an ordinary man named Leslie Mancuso who must rely on conventional tactics rather than supernatural powers. Taylor and her crew film Leslie’s meticulous preparations to slaughter a number of teenagers in an abandoned house and then be confronted by a virginal “survivor girl”, Kelly. Taylor and her crew come to share Leslie’s enthusiasm for his project, but their consciences catch up with them on the night of the murders…

Reviews:

screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-20-15-31“The movie has more cleverness than violence, and its breakdown of cliches is vivid and witty. Baesel is an extraordinary presence, holding the film together with his mesmerizing performance, charm and openness, and Goethals measures up to him.” Stephen Hunter, The Washington Post

“It’s a brilliant, twisted love letter to the genre that also develops an unexpected stylistic change right when you think you know where things are headed. It’s one of the most creative horror B movies of the 2000’s without a doubt.” Jim Vorel, Paste magazine

” …the movie morphs into exactly the sort of slashing it was previously mocking, is so hopelessly by the numbers that one couldn’t possibly care less about the outcome. There’s little doubt that the idea behind Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is relatively sound (i.e. highlighting the cliches inherent in this genre), but it’s ultimately the underwhelming execution that confirms the movie’s place as an almost total misfire.” David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews

“Compared to this, Scream is pure child’s play, a wannabe that states the obvious. Behind the Mask is a pure horror film masterpiece, and slasher fans would be best to acknowledge it.” Felix Vasquez Jr., Cinema Crazed

” …it’s Glosserman’s snarky pandering that’s most damning. Desperately overcompensating for the fact that most horror films are already parodies of themselves, Behind the Mask takes a bite out of the dumb Screamfranchise before devouring its own tail, proving that you are what you eat.” Ed Gonzalez, The Village Voice

“The script’s laughs are too widely spaced. Even before the plot takes a third-act turn into the land of kill-by-the-numbers slasher movies, the jokes drip when they should be gushing.” Kyle Smith, New York Post

‘The first movie to skip its own sequel’

ThanksKilling 3 is a 2012 American comedy science fiction horror film directed by Jordan Downey (shorts: Critters: Bounty Hunter; Craw Lake; Hackjob) from a screenplay co-written with Mike Will Downey and Kevin Stewart. It is a directed sequel to ThanksKilling (2008)

Unlike the original film’s paltry (ahem) budget of just $3,500, the sequel’s grandiose $112,248 budget was raised on crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

Main cast:

Daniel Usaj, Joe Hartzler, Preston Altree, Wanda Lust, Christina Blevins. Director Jordan Downey provided the voice of Turkie and three other puppet characters.

Plot:

Fowl-mouthed villain Turkie is back and hacking his way to find the last copy of “ThanksKilling 2” which has landed in the hands of a group of disturbingly crude puppets.

The death toll rises as Turkie carves through the likes of Flowis the rapping grandma, Rhonda the bisexual space worm, Yomi the puppet in search of her mind, and their equally ridiculous friends who all travel through fantastical settings such as the FeatherWorld and Turkey Hell…

Reviews:

“What separated ThanksKilling 3 from ThanksKilling was a once missing sense of individuality, transforming from unwatchable horror crapfest to one of a kind horror/comedy volcano of confusing hilarity. With a bigger budget, Downey is at least able to polish his turd … Downey also threw in cult references into the script for people to chuckle at, at least making the film more fun and enjoyable for horror fans and pop culture fans alike.” Matt Donato, We Got This Covered

” …while the budget here may be (considerably) higher than the first time around, fear not! Everything looks as cheap as ever — maybe even cheaper, if such a thing is humanly possible. And we even get glimpses of places called FeatherWorld and Turkey Hell. Honestly, what’s not to love? I admit, some of the charm (if that’s the word we’re looking for) of the first film is lost here…” Trash Film Guru

tk-34

“Perhaps in a sublimely drug-induced state this film will make perfect sense as a rendition of alternate reality with a killer bird and puppet granny with aspirations to be a rap star. It seems pretty clear that there was at least some herbal enhancement needed to concoct this insane story and the characters who play it out. Even without the benefit of a bong, though, ThanksKilling 3 can keep you entertained. Sometimes horrible is actually good, and stupidity can come across as semi-brilliant.” Don Sumner, HorrorFreak News

thankskilling-3-2012-hdrip

“The story, though weird, isn’t too bad. It goes off the rails and doesn’t have much cohesion but it works in an odd sort of way. The film and visual styles also jump around quite a bit. It goes from live action to animated to early 90’s video game without warning. The live action scenes don’t even stay within the same style; it’ll be serious one minute, then a raver acid trip complete with wild colors and techno music the next.” Undead Review

” …there are many embarrassing moments where it tries and fails to bring South Park style humor into its limp shenanigans. It also taunts itself as being a raunchy puppet film but it comes nowhere near the debauchery and violence of Meet the Feebles, which predates it by 23 years. There are some worthwhile moments here though, including some trippy scenes accompanied by a surprising excellent electro-score.” Tavern of Terror

Reviews:

“Story-wise this flick gives an interesting look into teen love with its usage of the “gent” turning into a zombie before he can profess his love to his longtime friend and potential lover, who of course for the sake of all the females and romantics watching…equally loves him as well. While it comes off cheesy at times, we all probably can relate to such teen antics and that brings some fun into this film.” Bloody Disgusting

boyeatsgirlrev03

“Instead of going for what made the Simon Pegg/Edward Wright/Nick Frost film so fantastic, it put zombies in the UK (in this case, a small Irish community) and hoped horror fans would see the similarities. Unfortunately, this is more after school special than scary movie, a lesson in peer pressure, underage sex, and bullying tactics more than a wacky genre spoof.” Bill Gibron, DVD Talk

“A somewhat darker and more engaging variant on the long familiar coming-of-age teenage zombie flick … This is a crisp with stunning scenery (filmed on the Isle of Man as well as around Dublin); there are good tongue-in-cheek lines, and some creative takes on how to kill zombies.” Peter Dendle, The Zombie Movie Encyclopedia 2000 – 2010

“Bad Irish pop music, flat characters, and quick running time aside, how is Boy Eats Girl? Fun, plain and simple. Don’t expect biting social commentary (pun intended), laugh-out-loud humor, or anything groundbreaking for the zombie genre and you’ll be fine. Some choice gore, nice looking women, and a quick pace…” Johnny Butane, Dread Central

“Mumba’s role as Jessica is atypical for a black actress. She’s not only the main love interest and heroine — saving her friends by mowing down a zombie horde with a tractor — but she’s portrayed as strong, smart and sexy, yet still a “good girl.” And race is never an issue. Bravo! Now, if they could only straighten out her eyebrows a bit…” Black Horror Movies

‘No more Mr. Nice Guy’

Shocker – also known as Wes Craven’s Shocker – is a 1989 American comedy horror film written and directed by co-producer Wes Craven (Scream; A Nightmare on Elm Street; The Hills Have Eyes).

According to Craven, the film was severely cut for an “R” rating. It took around thirteen submissions to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to receive an “R” instead of an “X”. Some scenes that were cut included Pinker spitting out fingers that he bit off of a prison guard, a longer and more graphic electrocution of Pinker, and a longer scene of a possessed coach stabbing his hand.

The film was released by Universal Pictures on October 27, 1989 to minor commercial success, grossing over $16 million from a $5 million budget, and critical failure, having been criticized for being too derivative of Craven’s earlier film A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Michael Murphy, Peter Berg, Heather Langenkamp, Cami Cooper, and Mitch Pileggi.

Opening plot:

A serial killer, having murdered over thirty people, is on the loose in a Los Angeles suburb. A television repairman with a pronounced limp, named Horace Pinker, becomes the prime suspect. However, his other foster son, a college football star named Jonathan, develops a strange connection to Pinker through his dreams and leads Parker to Pinker’s rundown shop. In a shootout in which several officers are killed, Pinker manages to escape, and targets Jonathan’s girlfriend Allison in retribution.

Another dream leads Lt. Parker and the police to Pinker, whom they catch in the act of a kidnapping. This time, just as Pinker is about to kill Jonathan, he is arrested. Pinker is quickly convicted and sentenced to die in the electric chair…

Reviews:

Shocker feels like an almost hallucinatory trip into the world of fantastic, with Craven still walking the slasher line rather confidently. I wouldn’t call it one of the more polished efforts from the visionary director but it certainly is far more entertaining and enjoyable than many have given it credit for over the years.” Heather Wixson, Daily Dead

“Just the narrative alone is completely off-the-wall bonkers and it’s absurdly glorious. We go from a high school romance story to a gritty serial murderer’s killing spree to a tale of black magic life after death followed by a literal chase through TV Land. There’s a reason why Dr. Timothy Leary makes a cameo in the film, and that’s not even a joke!” Andrew Hawkins, CHUD.com

e3fda54cd3bd489b9551d85b0ca36954

“The primary gimmick is quite silly—a serial killer made of electricity—but it allows for a few inventive scenarios, particularly Pinker’s body-hopping and an extended sequence where he is actually absorbed into the broadcast TV programming. Shocker is more over-the-top goofy than scary, but it’s a good deal of fun and the special effects hold up pretty well after a quarter century.” Austin Trunick, Under the Radar

shocker-movie-c

“Moving beyond mere whimsy into preposterousness, Shocker gets points for the loopy audacity of its narrative and some particularly moody cinematography from Jacques Haitkin, but simply doesn’t work consistently enough to be more than sporadically effective.” Dustin Putman, The BluFile

“Noisy (the soundtrack is ‘80s hair metal) and incredible even before Pinker’s execution (nobody in the story’s small town seems overly alarmed by the fact that multiple families have been massacred), Shocker is thoroughly wick-wick-wack, but it’s certainly distinctive.” John Beifuss, The Commercial Appeal

shockerblurayfeat

Shocker, alas, ranks among his absolute worst, with his attempt to create another enduring villain like A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger falling woefully flat … Badly written and poorly paced, Shocker also suffers from the sort of broad humor best suited for a Looney Tunes cartoon. Pileggi goes deliberately over the top as Pinker, and it ain’t pretty to watch.” Matt Brunson, Creative Loafing

“I dig a lot about Shocker with its great visuals and a true sense of darkness, dread and despair. The emotional shit that Jonathan puts up with from Pinker (who even kills his girlfriend) drains the viewer…hard not to feel for the guy. While the story recycles many Elm Street ideas, the look of the movie is what really works. I give credit to long time horror cinematographer Jacques Haitkin, a name horror fans should know.” Ryan Doom, Arrow in the Head

Review:

“In any normal sex comedy, our lead would have found out that love is more important than sex and that what he thinks he wants isn’t what he actually wants. In The Night of the Virgin, the former never comes into play, but the latter absolutely rings true. What follows as this night goes on is a never-ending onslaught of wince-inducing, stomach-churning hijinks that have to be seen to be believed.” Daniel Baldwin, Bloody Disgusting

‘It’s hard to live when you can’t die’

He Never Died is a 2015 Canadian/American comedic horror film written and directed by Jason Krawczyk. It stars Henry Rollins as an immortal, cannibalistic loner who has withdrawn from society to protect both himself and others. A miniseries continuation of the film is currently in development.

Main cast:

Henry Rollins (Suck; Wrong Turn 2), Booboo Stewart, Steven Ogg, Jordan Todosey, Kate Greenhouse.

la-henry-rollins-still-2-jpg-20151217

Plot:

Jack (Henry Rollins) has developed a routine for his life that he sticks to in order to avoid giving into the impulse to engage in cannibalism. He stays away from society other than regular trips to a local diner, bingo games, and to the hospital, where he purchases blood from a hospital intern, Jeremy (Booboo Stewart). After returning from one trip, Jack is confronted by mobsters Steve and Short, who are looking for Jeremy.

0-pjwig2huszyzvqn6

Jack’s routine is further interrupted by a phone call from his ex-girlfriend, Gillian, who asks him to find their daughter, Andrea (Jordan Todosey), who tried to contact him earlier that day. Unhappy, Jack agrees to locate Andrea, but stresses that he wants no further contact with Gillian. He finds Andrea and takes her with him to his favorite diner, where she meets Cara (Kate Greenhouse), a waitress with a crush on Jack. While Jack slowly bonds with Andrea he begins to see visions of an old man with a goatee, wearing a Trilby hat…

Reviews:

“Beyond a few animalistic howls letting out whatever beast is dwelling inside him, Jack keeps his emotions in check throughout, and it is to Rollins’ credit that he makes such a closed-off character compelling, empathetic, funny despite himself and, in the end, more human than he probably knows.” Michael Gingold, Fangoria

“The violence is done in quick blasts and plays like more of a nuisance than any kind of real threat but there are some memorable moments where Rollins looks like he could have easily pulled off roles like The Terminator and even Dalton in Road House. If you think you’ve seen Rollins before and know his limits, be sure to seek out his first lead role ever in He Never Died.” Drew Tinnin, Dread Central

henry-rollins-he-never-died-2015-billboard-embed

He Never Died is laugh out loud funny thanks almost exclusively to Rollins’ delivery and reaction shots, but the acts of violence and character details are just as entertaining. It’s a darkly comic thriller that also serves as a fantastic introduction to a character I hope we see again soon.” Rob Hunter, Film School Rejects

“Herein lies the problem – can you really get excited about a character who can’t seem to die? No matter how many times Jack is shot, tortured, or thrown in a river, he always comes back meaner and badder than before. I know that watching Henry Rollins go all Herculean sounds like great fun, but a lack of understanding sullies the gory bouts of blood drinking that send Jack into a ferocious rage.” Matt Donato, We Got This Covered

thumbnail_23562

“The best way to figure out if He Never Died is for you is to consider the scene where Rollins, as Jack, rattles off a list of odd jobs he’s performed during his life. Jack’s list is interminable, which is itself funny. But Rollins’s comic delivery really makes the scene great.” Simon Abrams, RogerEbert.com

He Never Died isn’t as fleshed out as it could be, but what the film lacks in vivid supporting characters and rich plotting it gets back from Rollins, whose innate charisma carries the film. More than anything, this is a memorable character sketch, tracing the grubby life of a lonely superman. It’s the cinematic equivalent of a vintage Black Flag rager.” Noel Murray, Los Angeles Times
